Chautauqua Alliance Briefly-August 2026

September 3, 2026 By Jay Young

  • Pictured above, DEC and GEI panelists are joined by the Alliance Board of Directors for a Chautauqua Lake Public Information Session on 8/18/26 at The Village Casino.

Recent

  • Thank you to The Village Casino for hosting the Chautauqua Lake Public Information Session on 8/18/26. Thank you to all those who attended and our panelists, including AJ Reyes of GEI Consultants, DEC Region 9 Acting Regional Director Chad Staniszewski, and DEC Region 9 Fisheries Biologist Justin Brewer.
  • Integrated Lakes Management concluded its diver assisted suction harvesting of invasive starry stonewort in August. Thanks to funding from state DEC invasive species grants secured by the Towns of North Harmony and Chautauqua, ILM crews worked from 7/27 to 8/21 near Prendergast Point and Ashville Bay with direction from Everwild Land Trust staff. DASH crews worked alongside equipment from the CLA and Town of Chautauqua in order to conduct bulk removal of the algae.
    • Additional bulk removal by CLA and Town Mobitracs may be performed later this season depending on growth, permitting, weather, etc.
  • GEI Consultants performed a lake reconnaissance survey in August as part of their 2026 scope of work, focusing on starry stonewort and other high-priority management areas.
