300 miles of streams feed Chautauqua Lake. Good water quality starts with a healthy watershed.
The first goal of the Chautauqua Lake Watershed Management Plan is to “Improve water quality in the lake, streams, ponds, and wetlands of the watershed by reducing the inflow of nutrients and sedimentation.” Several of the guidance documents that inform the mission and work of the Alliance cite stream restoration as a key strategy to achieve this. In order to fund this vital work the Alliance, its partners, and other stakeholders often pursue grants from a variety of sources to help rehabilitate the many streams in our 100,000-acre watershed.
