CHQ Alliance Briefly

March 25, 2026 By Jay Young

March 2026

This is the first edition of the Alliance’s new Briefly posting, which will offer monthly news updates from the Alliance and around the lake.

Recent

  • At their March meeting the Alliance Board finalized funding awards for 2026 lake and watershed projects via the Consolidated Local Funding Program supported by our local charitable foundations. The awards were made with input from AJ Reyes of GEI Consultants, the Alliance Board’s independent lake consultant. We greatly appreciate these local contributions and the Alliance Members who perform the work.
  • The Board also reviewed and approved an updated communications strategy and discussed additional funding opportunities that may be considered for Member projects in 2026.
  • The County Executive hosted the 2026 Lake Symposium on 3/21/2026 at the Harbor Hotel in Celoron. Presenters included North Carolina State University, The Jefferson Project, GEI Consultants, DEC, CLA, CLP, and CWC. Click here to see the full video on the County’s YouTube page. Click here to access presentation slides from the event.

Upcoming

  • The Alliance and Chautauqua County are in the process of finalizing the report to complete the Bemus Creek Sediment and Debris Management Plan. Engineering for this state grant was conducted by Colliers Engineering and Design.
  • DEC Regional Fisheries Staff will host public meetings to discuss the status of walleye in the lake on Tuesday, March 24 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Carlson Community Center at Lakeside Park 78 Water Street Route 394 in Mayville and on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at The Lawson Center at 73 Lakeside Dr in Bemus Point. Registration is not required.
  • The Alliance Board will hold its next work session in April. The Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. at The Lawson Center in Bemus Point (73 Lakeside Drive) – the public is welcome to attend the May meeting.
